The conversation needs to focus on methods for teaching digital literacy skills (https://www.academia.edu/6555011/Methods_for_Teaching_Digital_Literacy) and not on how to use the device. A toddler can certainly demonstrate proficiency in how to use an iPad to access content, however, that doesn’t imply that she possesses media literacy skills related to critical thinking, evaluation, proper search methods, e-safety, and a litany of related skills required for digital citizenship.
